June 2010

The year is absolutely flying by.  Here we are at the end of June with State-Age Championships upon us, the NSW Swifts are set to contest the ANZ Championship Final in Newcastle after completing an upbeaten run in the rounds but going down to the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the major semi-final; and the Waratah Cup teams honing their skills as the end of the competition looms.  It was great to see Rebecca Bulley acknowledged as the best player in the ANZ competition by Holden.

We have enjoyed a very successful State Championships, proudly sponsored by Holden, at the magnificent new venue for the Campbelltown District Netball Association.  President, Shirley Connelly, and her Executive and members have worked tireless to gain the support of all political persuasions and all levels as well as the community at large and it has certainly paid great dividends for them and the sport.  Well done!

I am delighted to report that the Tamworth Association is in the throes of construction for their new complex; it will be a state-of-the-art complex that will serve not only Tamworth but our Northern Inland Region very well.

Our two ANL teams have been selected for 2010, congratulations to all the players and good luck to all involved for a successful competition.

We are starting to see the results of the work being done around the State by the Game Development area with coaches receiving updates and accreditations and umpires achieving National badges.  Our warm congratulations are extended to Kylie Mulcare on recently achieving her National A badge.

The ongoing discussions and consultation around the proposed new Constitution continue with a Forum being held recently at the State Championships.  A further Forum will be held on Monday 19th July, 7.00pm at the Anne Clark Centre.  The document is available for download on the website along with associated policies – the Postal Voting Policy and the Affiliation and Membership Policy.  I encourage all members to read the documents and provide written feedback into the General Manager.  There are a number of scheduled regional and metropolitan meetings where the documents will be discussed and I would again encourage all Districts to attend where appropriate and have a say.

I look forward to having the opportunity to catch up with you over the three days of the State-Age Championships.

See you around the courts.

President
