Umpiring Courses

National Umpires Accreditation Courses are also a prerequisite to practical testing. There are various levels of accreditation, each level covering theory and practical components. Up-and-coming Umpiring courses are listed below.

RULES IN ACTION
Rules in Action are a prerequisite for an ‘A’ Badge but may be completed earlier.

Every six years, at least one professional unit from the Level II or Rules in Action must be undertaken as an update credential for Umpires and Testers.

Presenters will be of AAs who are currently in the national pool of umpires.

There are two components to Rules in Action 2 x 2 hour sessions.

Section 1 Theory Exam
The Netball Australia Online Umpire Exam Centre is now LIVE - click here
In a new initiative, some key aspects of the new online format are:
  • If a pass mark is not achieved, feedback on correct / incorrect answers will not be given to encourage participants to go back to the rule book.

Netball NSW Umpire Education Officer Jan Simpson believes that the new online model will make it easier for coaches, managers, umpires and players to update their knowledge.

For further information please don't hesitate to contact Jan Simpson on 02 9951 5000 or jsimpson@netballnsw.com.

Introductory Level Officiating General Principles Course
Netball Australia advises that the Introductory Officiating General Principles online course is no longer a requirement for the Level 1 Umpire Course. Those participants that have already completed the Level 1 course but not the online course may be awarded with the course. Future participants are not required to complete the online course nor purchase the ASC manual. The National Umpire Strategic Committee will review whether the online course should be included in the accreditation framework when they meet later this year.

For further information please don't hesitate to contact Jan Simpson on 02 9951 5000 or jsimpson@netballnsw.com.

Section 2 Theory Exam will be conducted twice annually.

Passes in both Examinations are valid for six years from the date of the Examination sitting. The most recent Examination mark is the current result. A current Section 2 Examination Pass negates the need for a current Section 1 Examination Pass. However, this assumes that a Section 1 Examination Pass was obtained but has since lapsed under the six year validity.

Special Note:
“Lorraine Lea Linen recently offered, as a part of supporting the national umpire accreditation program (LLL umpire development program, a “free shirt” to those umpires who received a badge in 2008 in recognition of their achievement.  This was a limited offer.  To prevent any confusion the LLL shirts are to be worn only when there is no local, regional or state sponsor of the event at which you are umpiring.  The local, regional, state umpires sponsor obviously takes precedent.  Check with the umpire coordinator of the event or competition.

All Netball Australia presenters when taking umpiring courses are requested to wear their AANA LLL presenter shirts they have received or will receive in June.
We are very appreciative of the support shown by the Lorraine Lea Linen Company for umpire development in Netball Australia wide!”
