Netball Associations, coaches, players and umpires across New South Wales are putting the final touches on their 2009 HOLDEN State Championship preparations which commences on Saturday 6 June.

The HOLDEN State Championships are three solid days of netball on the June long weekend, culminating in the presentation of the “state champions” - not an easy title to achieve in a game with over 105,000 participants in New South Wales alone.

The State Championships, a Netball NSW event, will be hosted by Illawarra Netball Association at Fred Finch Park with over 1800 participants involved in the event.

The State Championships is one of the four marquee events on the state netball calendar, this event bringing together elite netballers from across the state for three days of tough competition, and some socialising – in one of the worlds’ largest female amateur sporting events.

The event continues to grow each year with 142 teams in 2009, up from 135 in 2008 and 131 in 2007.

This year there are 72 Associations competing, 142 teams, in five age divisions: Opens, 21 and under, 17 and under, over 35 and over 40. There will also be a “state champion” named in the over 45 category, with the two registered teams competing in the over 40 age group during the rounds.
