The Netball NSW Blues suffered their first loss of the 2011 Australian Netball League season, going down by four goals, 51-47, to ladder leaders Queensland Fusion on Saturday night in Queensland.
After a blistering opening quarter by the NNSW Blues, the home team chipped away at the lead to steal the win.
Despite the loss NNSW Blues coach Lisa Beehag was pleased with her team’s great start.
“We started brilliantly which really showed the work that the girls had put in,” Beehag said.
“Queensland made several changes which is what we expected. It was a tough game; they weren’t just going to sit back and let us run through.
Although they were returning from a week off with the bye, the NNSW Blues did not miss a beat as they fired from the first centre pass, shooting 100% to open up a 17-9 advantage in the first quarter.
It was goal-for-goal in the second quarter but the Fusion made their charge in the third as the NNSW Blues started to lose a bit of rhythm.
The NNSW Blues will be aiming to make a quick recovery before lining up again on Sunday to take on the Tassie Spirit at 12.00pm.
