NSW and Manly-Warringah junior Nicola Gray has been named as the temporary replacement player for Queensland Firebirds midcourter Chelsea Pitman.
Pitman, also a NSW junior, is recovering from a minor knee injury which was sustained during the Firebirds five-goal loss to the NSW Swifts last weekend in round four of the ANZ Championship.
It has been a whirlwind 24 hours for Gray, a GA/WA, who last night played for the NSW Institute of Sport in a training match against the NSW Swifts and today is on her way to link-up with the Firebirds ahead of their round six clash with the undefeated Melbourne Vixens in Melbourne on Sunday 29 April.
Gray is one of the rising stars of Australian netball: a former Australian Institute of Sport Scholarship holder, member of the victorious 2011 Netball NSW Waratahs, vice-captain of the championship-winning 2011 NSW 21/U team and member of the 2011 Australian 21/U team.
