Coffs Harbour and Hastings Valley claimed the honours at the 2012 North Coast Regional State League on Sunday at Macleay Netball Association.
Netball NSW Regional Coordinator for the North Coast region Rachelle Brazier said the participation of 13 teams in this year’s round robin event set the stage for a thrilling competition.
“It was a great day of action with exciting matchups in both divisions and the teams will be able to use the experience to help them prepare for the State Championships in just over a month’s time,” Brazier said.
Kicking off in the morning under brilliant sunshine, six teams contested Division One before Coffs Harbour 35 emerged victorious.
The sun shined until the final round of Division One when play was abandoned as the clouds moved overhead and the rain came down. Coffs Harbour finished the day undefeated and Nambucca Valley 35 edged Hastings Valley 35 and Hastings Valley 45 to claim runners-up.
Division Two was a battle between 17/U teams from Hastings Valley, Nambucca Valley, Great Lakes, Coffs Harbour, Taree, Macleay and making their debut in the North Coast Regional State League, Woopi.
Hastings Valley was dominant throughout the round robin and was undefeated but it was a close contest for runners-up honours.
Heading into the final round Nambucca Valley was holding onto second place, just one win ahead of Great Lakes and Woopi.
Woopi was narrowly defeated by Coffs Harbour, and despite Great Lakes getting the better of Nambucca Valley in the final round to draw level on the ladder, Nambucca Valley had done enough to be awarded runners-up on goals for/against.
